Hi everyone!
I’ve sat here for a while now, going through other bloggers’ welcome posts and just contemplating what to write. To be honest, it feels strange to introduce myself over the internet to readers who most likely know me in person.
Nevertheless, creating a blog allows me to have a platform to share anything I want with the world, from brute honesty to my favourite things or tips and tricks to better your life and, whether you know me or not, I hope you can learn something from this blog!
Who am I?

I’m Millie, a 20-year-old university student. I study English Literature and Theatre Studies, and have always wanted to broaden my horizons with writing, hoping for a future in a related career.
I am about to embark on a year abroad in October in Berlin and, to be honest, I’m pretty scared. Moving to a new country alone, where you hardly speak the language, aside, the Coronavirus has no doubt changed the world in unforeseeable ways, and I’m about to step out into completely new territory. Despite this, I’m looking forward to taking this year by its reigns, travelling around Europe (safely) in my free time, and absorbing all the new cultures I come across (and eat a lot of food, too). I can’t wait to share my adventures on this platform, and I hope some people follow along!
That aside, I have always been a hugely creative person. Whether it’s, of course, reading and writing stories or watching plays and musicals, to designing and sewing accessories or painting and scrapbooking, I love to be creative in any way possible. I’d also love to share just a few of my tips and tricks with the world.
Why am I starting a blog?
I’ve always loved writing, from short stories when I was younger, to screenwriting and playwrighting at university – literature has always had a strong place in my heart.
But there’s always been something about blogging that makes me anxious; will anyone even care or follow along? Is it something I want my friends/family to see? Am I ready to share those aspects of my life with the world? These anxieties have caused a whirlwind of thoughts and ideas inside my head – I could write under a pseudonym or post anonymously; I don’t have to tell anyone.
Over the lockdown period, though, I’ve been reflecting over what I really want from life. As someone with a very open degree, I’ve never really known where I want to go post-university. Even when applying to uni, I had no clue what course I truly wanted to do - I just stuck with my two favourite A-Levels and hoped for the best, never really thinking about the future. But I’ve had time over the past few months to really reflect – what do I want to do?
This period left me feeling, to be frank, rubbish about my future aspects – I’ve never had great work experience, let alone in a specific field, and everyone I speak to tells me my course is subpar for the working world: from, ‘employers don’t want someone with an English degree, they want to see Economics, Law, or Science, Maths, Business degrees etc.’ to, ‘what do you even learn, how to read?’, I’ve heard it all.
But it was when doing a short stint as an intern with a PR business over the lockdown that I realised my worth and passion. I love writing, that’s all there is to it. Who cares what people think about the topics you’re writing about, or what degree you received (which you worked damn hard to get)? As long as you love what you’re doing, and are putting your all into doing it, then that’s all that matters.
And that’s where the inspiration for this blog came from.
So, whether you know me or not, I hope you stick around and learn to not sweat the small stuff – as long as you’re doing what you love and are passionate about, then you will go far!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my first blog post, especially as it is just a welcome post! Hopefully this and my future posts interest you enough to subscribe and follow along on my journeys, I’d love to share them with you!
I’d also love to get to know my readers more, so please do fill in the form on my site or check out my Instagram page! This blog is completely new to me, so I’d love some feedback.
But for now, thank you again for reading
Millie x
